Ride with a wheelchair, walker or stroller

RTC, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, runs the buses in Las Vegas. Every RTC bus has a ramp or lift, and the driver can lower the front of the bus to the curb. This guide shows how to get on and off with a wheelchair, walker or stroller, what you can ask the driver, and how RTC Paratransit works.

  1. Step 1: Get on the bus

Wait where the driver can see you. Every RTC bus has a ramp or lift at the front door, and the driver can lower the front step to the curb. This is called kneeling.

You can ask the driver to kneel the bus or put out the ramp or lift if you use a wheelchair, mobility scooter, walker or stroller.

If you bring a child in a stroller, take the child out and fold the stroller once you board. Keep it out of the aisle. RTC does not allow a child to ride in an open stroller on the bus.

If you're not sure your wheelchair or scooter fits the ramp, ask the driver. They can tell you before you try to board.

Ask RTC Customer Care about a particular mobility device before your trip: 702-228-7433.

  2. Step 2: Ride at the front and get off

The securement area is the open space at the front of the bus with straps that hold a wheelchair or scooter in place. The seats nearest it are priority seats for older adults and people with disabilities.

You can ask the driver for help, including to call out your stop. RTC drivers announce major stops, transfer points and other key places along the route. Service animals are welcome on board.

To get off, press the stop request, tell the driver you need the ramp or lift, and wait for the bus to kneel before you move to the door.

  3. Step 3: Know about RTC Paratransit

RTC Paratransit is a door-to-door shared ride for people whose disability keeps them from using the regular bus some or all of the time.

You apply to RTC first to be found eligible, then book each ride in advance. A ride on RTC Paratransit counts as not driving during the week, the same as a ride on the bus.

Check RTC's Paratransit pages for how to apply, book a ride and pay your fare.
